new mom syndrome

i admit it. ever since major pulled his ligament in feb. i have had the new mom syndrome...bad. i've been a nervous wreck about if i am doing the right things to make him better and i constantly worry about his legs. well today i decided to let major loose in the indoor arena which he hasn't been able to do since he got hurt. in fact he hasn't even gotten turn out (but that will change shortly cuz there is a small, dry, and flat paddock he will start being turned out in). well i lead him into the arena and i slowly unclipped the lead line while my heart was thumping wildly in my chest. he turned and started to walk away and sniff the ground. a minute passed and i started to relax but then pookieman exploded. he took off bucking and i freaked out. he took about four laps around the arena when i stopped him and snapped the leadline back onto his halter. i felt horrible but seeing him take off like that scared the crap out of me and the only thing i was thinking was that he was going to pull something again. i immediantly took him outside and trotted him on the hard ground to check for lameness but there wasn't any. i swear i am going crazy. i am always second guessing myself and i can't help but remembering that day when i found out that he had hurt himself. god i'm going crazy.

we all fall down

this is the very first post of my very first blog. whoop whoop! basically i am a seventeen year old college student that is rehabbing her seven year old gelding from a pulled ligament. after having seven months off i am starting the adventure of riding him again with no lunging or turn out. bring it on. yesterday i had my second fall of of major since i could ride him under saddle. the first one he spooked at a wheel barrow and took off with me bareback (i know, why the hell are you riding a young rehabbing horse bareback?) but yesterday i was loping him in the indoor arena when a stupid little kid came running out of the barn screaming, ran up to the porti-pottie and slammed the door. well mr pookieman decided that that was simply the most terrifying thing in the whole entire world and took off bucking. i was fine with him bucking b/c he was running in a straight line and i knew he would eventually stop but he ended up dropping his left shoulder while changing direction, bucking at the same time. he totally launched me over his head where i flipped head over heels and landed on my back. great. i hit my head and really hurt my back but of course i had to get right back on and ride him again. after you fall you have to get right back on the horse right? so i immediantly got back on and rode him around some more and he was fine. then i had to race to work b/c i was running late and had a horrible headache the entire time. thanks to pookieman and the little brat that thought running around the corner screaming would be a great idea.
